Mutant.
The very word has sent the entire world into a frenzy to discover why and how they came to be. There had to be a reason why humans were suddenly born with inhuman abilities, right? A logical, scientific reason behind such a genetic change? But when doctors and scientists attempted to unravel the inner workings of their DNA code, someone attacked their facility, freeing the mutant that had been picked at random off of the streets for testing.
From that day forth, people have deemed all mutants as danger, menaces to society as a whole. They refuse to have anything to do with them, unless that includes capturing them and hauling them off of the streets toward the hidden places of torture and scientific exploration. In those places, mutants were treated like dirt, held against their will and used in various experiments. Ones that were often rather painful to endure. Many died in this way.
So afraid for those who had mutant powers, that they rallied together, trying to come up with a place where they would all be safe. That meeting was broken up by anti mutant protesters, many of whom slaughtered the mutants without mercy. Of those who had attended that secret meeting that night, only five escaped with their lives. Together, they created a school in the hidden forest of Baxter, North Carolina. Talons Academy.
Ever since then, mutants of every age have been attending, from the youngest child in elementary school to the student who decided to stay on and teach after university. You can always find someone to relate too, at Talons Academy. But the scariet part of all? Everyone knows it is only a matter of time before someone comes and finds out what is hidden inside the safety of those walls.
